Great to meet you all on Monday - I hope you enjoy these summaries and extra resources!
Here's a Summary
Here's the key points from my presentation without the waffle. To download click on the image or that orange button down there!
1. Facing the Flinch
Due to time constraints I couldn't set out the full process of how I overcame my doubts to think that it might be worthwhile taking on the trans-Atlantic rowing race - the one I still use for when taking on any big challenge. For a more complete picture you can read 'The Oarsome Adventures of a Fat Boy Rower' or have a look at this TED talk from lifestyle guru Tim Ferriss about 'Fear Setting' - which is eerily similar to what I did. TIP: If you want to skip the long preamble about stoic philosophy go to 6min.
And here is a worksheet I've put together to help you try his process.
4. Dealing with Setbacks
If you're experiencing anything like the feelings that I described in my presentation at this point, or you know someone who is, then check out the resources here at https://depression.org.nz/
And know that depression affects 1 in 5 people at some point in their lives.
The 3 P's method that I described for dealing with setbacks comes from Dr Martin Seligman's fantastic book 'Learned Optimism'. Which I highly recommend.
Any chance of a Google review?
If you enjoyed my presentation and are in a generous mood, I would be grateful if you could leave me a Google review here
